Jamaica Szeliga is a partner in the Litigation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Szeliga’s practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation relating to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical matters. She also litigates patent disputes involving other technologies, including medical devices, mechanical inventions, communications, and high tech products, and further has significant experience in design patent litigation. With respect to litigation, Ms. Szeliga has participated in several bench and jury trials and managed litigations at all stages. As part of her experiences, Ms. Szeliga has drafted and argued dispositive motions, examined witnesses at trial, coordinated complex fact discovery, managed expert discovery, taken and defended fact and expert depositions, engaged in mediation and dispute resolution processes, and briefed multiple appeals. She also has both been a member of several joint defense groups, and has litigated against such groups, particularly in the context of Hatch-Waxman ANDA matters. She also has argued before the Federal Circuit, and is admitted to practice before that court and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Szeliga’s practice also extends to counseling on the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (the “BPCIA”), patent prosecution, opinion drafting, and providing advice relating to intellectual property corporate transactions and trademark. Part of her practice is devoted to small entities, providing advice on ways to protect innovative ideas and procuring patents and trademarks for such entities. Ms. Szeliga graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2002, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, with a minor in Biology, with distinction, from Stanford University in 1999. She is admitted to the District of Columbia and the New York State bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Tarnoff started his career in intellectual property in 1982 as a patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he worked until 1986. At the USPTO, Mr. Tarnoff examined patent applications relating to agricultural machines and medical devices. Mr. Tarnoff has appeared in various patent litigations in District Court as well as appeals in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
