John Godbout grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a degree in American Government. John was offered a Dean’s Merit Scholarship to study law at the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, FL.
John's early legal career was focused on civil litigation, first as an associate for a Miami litigation firm specializing in aviation and transportation tort defense and later as Assistant General Counsel for the Florida Dept of Transportation (D6). John then spent a decade at a Fortune 100 insurance company where he led a team of professionals specializing in directors and officers liability claims.
John went on to lead the reorganization of a midsize, multistate law firm based in Miami with six domestic offices and a satellite location in Medellin, Columbia, and later to reimagine and rebuild a boutique law firm in Boston, MA. John ultimately pivoted to criminal defense, and is the managing partner of Smith & Eulo.
