Michael Smith was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. In 2007, he graduated cum laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. In 2010, he graduated from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center with a Juris Doctorate and a Diploma of Civil Law. During law school, Michael was selected as a member of the Trial Advocacy Board and competed in numerous national mock trial and moot court competition. Michael also served as the SBA class president for his law school graduating class of 2010.
After law school, Michael began his career as a judicial law clerk in the 26th Judicial District Court of Louisiana. As a law clerk, Michael assisted with legal research and drafting opinions in a wide range of both civil and criminal cases. Upon the conclusion of his clerkship, Michael moved to Florida and worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the 19th Circuit of Florida and the 15th Circuit of Florida in Palm Beach County. After a stint as a criminal defense attorney, Michael returned to the State Attorney’s Office in Palm Beach County in 2016.
During his time as an Assistant State Attorney, Michael prosecuted well over 1,000 cases including over 70 jury trials, successfully prosecuting cases ranging from DUI to First Degree Murder. Michael served as division chief in both County Court and Circuit Court and was a member of the Organized Crime Unit.
