When I first started practicing law, I was an insurance defense lawyer. What that means is I defended insurance companies and their insureds, either or both of whom had been sued in a variety of settings. Most of those were injury cases, but I also dealt with other claims, like fire losses and other related homeowners claims. I enjoyed what I did, and I developed my skills as an attorney in those high-pressure settings. In approximately 2007, I moved to Muskogee and began to represent private individuals in the same type of claims, only on the other side. I quickly realized this was my calling. I found that I really enjoyed interacting with the public and helping people when they were at the lowest of points of their lives. I was an athlete growing up and I have always had a very competitive sense of purpose and motivation. I have been able to merge that innate quality with my affinity and affection for the people I represent, and the results have been evident.
