Mr. McDonnell's approach to personal injury cases is unique in that he has seen them from both sides. In 1986, he began his career defending cases for insurance companies at a firm in Los Angeles. He became the youngest partner in the firm, and eventually moved on to a larger firm to become a managing partner. In 2001, he realized he did not want to spend the rest of his life working on behalf of insurance companies, so he opened a small practice representing people hurt in accidents—often against the same insurance companies he once defended. Mr. McDonnell knows firsthand how insurance companies operate, and has the confidence and experience necessary to handle any case. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned his B.A., before attending the University of Oregon School of Law, where he earned his J.D. He is admitted to the California State Bar Association.
