James “Jim” Schmerbauch is the Lead Attorney of JML Law’s Workers’ Compensation Group. Jim is primarily based at the Anaheim office of JML Law and has practiced law in California for the last 33 years. He has practiced exclusively in Workers’ Compensation for over 17 years, first on behalf of insurance companies defending workers’ injury claims and for the last eight years as an advocate for injured workers and litigating their injury claims at the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards. As an advocate for injured workers during the last eight years, Jim has obtained Awards and Settlements of over 20 million dollars for the injured workers he has represented. Many of these awards and settlements included additional benefits provided and paid to clients during and after the litigation of their claims, including retraining via Supplemental Job Displacement benefits, temporary disability, and medical care for their injuries. Jim enjoys spending time with his immediate family, including his wife, daughter, and two grandchildren. Jim is also a reasonably accomplished musician and artist. He plays every weekend for church services, occasional parties, clubs, and restaurants.

Schmerling is a Partner and is a Co-Business Unit Leader of the Justice for Kids Division, the firm’s national practice dedicated to providing legal services to abused, disabled, and catastrophically injured children harmed in foster care, shelters, residential treatment centers, group homes, and other child welfare settings, as well as all children harmed by the acts of others. She practices in the areas of foster care and disabled persons damages, civil rights, personal injury, and child welfare litigation.
