Garrett Smee is a Partner in the San Diego office of Resnick & Louis P.C. Mr. Smee is a member of the firm’s General Liability, Employment & Labor and Estate Planning Practice Groups. His practice typically involves defense in high exposure matters involving employment and labor, and personal injury matters that often result from catastrophic injuries. His current and former clients include Fortune 500 companies, insurance companies, public and municipal entities (and their employees), closely held businesses and private individuals. Mr. Smee has served as trial counsel in over 45 trials (19 jury) in state and federal courts throughout California. He effectively handles his matters from inception and pre-litigation strategy through law and motion, discovery, trial and the appellate process. Three of Mr. Smee's employment verdicts resulted in success with the California Fourth District Court of Appeal, one of which resulted in a published opinion - Willis v. City of Carlsbad (2020) 48 Cal. App. 5th 1104. He has achieved reversals of two trial court final judgments, one of which went to the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - Atkins v. Mabus (9th Cir. 2016) No. 14-56087 (see also, Curiél-Aguirre v. County of Imperial (2015) D066366.) His first civil jury trial also resulted in a published opinion - Yacoub v. Talia (2014) 79 C.C.C. 409. Mr. Smee played baseball at Point Loma Nazarene University on athletic and academic scholarships - graduating cum laude. He attended California Western School of Law on a full-tuition merit scholarship - graduating magna cum laude and serving as an Editor on Law Review. Since the Spring of 2022, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at Western Sierra Law School in Oceanside, where he teaches 4 unit classes in civil Remedies and Criminal Procedure. Mr. Smee lives with his wife of 24 years and three children in Escondido, California. He attends Emmanuel Faith Community Church. On the weekends, he also enjoys golfing with his family, fishing with his son, and watching baseball and college football. Mr. Smee is licensed to practice law in the State of California.
