Julie Aleve Fine is an experienced trial attorney with over 50 jury trials in the State of Florida. Growing up as the daughter of two former criminal defense attorneys in Gainesville, Florida, Ms. Fine was drawn to litigation and began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Office of the State Attorney for the Eighth Judicial Circuit. She now enjoys practicing with her parents as the lead litigation attorney at Fine, Farkash & Parlapiano, P.A., focusing on personal injury cases. In the five years since joining the firm in 2016, Ms. Fine has obtained 10 civil jury verdicts; obtaining Florida’s 37th Highest Verdict for 2017 and one of Florida’s Top 50 Highest Verdicts in 2019. Ms. Fine has been selected by The National Trial Lawyers as “Top 40 Under 40” for Civil Plaintiff Lawyers for the past 5 years in a row. In March 2019 she obtained a jury verdict of over $1.4 million for a nonsurgical pedestrian case. In addition to her trial work, Ms. Fine has successfully argued multiple civil cases in front of the First District Court of Appeal as well as the Florida Supreme Court. Ms. Fine was appointed to the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee in 2021, and proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Justice Association.

Mr. Fine, an Alabama native, is a graduate of Mountain Brook Public Schools. He received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at Kansas City Kansas Community College from which he graduated with an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement in 1989. It was in Kansas City that Erik met Annie Doolittle, whom he married in 1991. Erik and Annie returned to Birmingham where he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science. At the onset of Operation Desert Storm, Erik enlisted in the United States Navy. He completed basic training at the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, where he received the prestigious Navy League Award, an honor given to the top individual recruit among all graduating sailors in the entire Command, consisting of almost a thousand recruits. Following completion of Basic Training he went on to attend and complete the rigorous and intensive U.S. Navy's Hospital Corpsman School, emerging as a combat medic for the naval fleet. He then received orders to report for advanced medical laboratory training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Upon graduation from Advanced medical laboratory technician school, Erik was assigned to serve with the Medical Division onboard the world-famous nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in Norfolk, Virginia. After completing his tour of duty onboard the finest warship in the history of the United States Navy, Erik received orders to finish his military duty at Portsmouth Naval Hospital where he was assigned to the hospital's Histopathology and Morgue Service Department. Upon being Honorably Discharged from the Navy in 1995 he and his family returned to Alabama. Erik joined the Alabaster Police Department in 1997. Because of his extensive scientific medical training and experience, then Alabaster Police Chief Larry Rollan selected him to attend the Alabama State Trooper Academy's Institute of Police Management and Technology Traffic Reconstruction School in Selma, Alabama. It was there that he earned National Certification and became the Alabaster Police Department's first Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, providing him with a rare and unique skill set essential to making accurate and precise determinations about the causes and consequences of motor vehicle crashes and other accidents resulting in property damage, injury or death. Subsequently, he was promoted to Sergeant and became the Alabaster Police Department's Traffic Division Supervisor. Soon thereafter, Erik was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he served as the department's Patrol Division Commander until leaving to join the Hoover Police Department as a Corrections Officer in 2005. While at Hoover PD, he returned to school, on a part-time basis, attending UAB's School of Medicine's Paramedic Program. After graduating in 2007, Erik passed the National Paramedic Registry Examination and became a Certified Paramedic. In 2009, he was accepted into the Birmingham School of Law. While working as a Supervisor at the Hoover City Jail, he attended law school classes in the evening before reporting for his “graveyard shift” duties at the jail. During his law school years, Erik was a member of the Birmingham School of Law's Honor Fraternity, Sigma Delta Kappa, for his high-grade point average and constant appearance on the Dean's List for outstanding academic performance. Upon graduating from BSL, Erik passed the Alabama State Bar Exam and began practicing law at the Birmingham firm of Simms & Associates, where he learned the art and science of Criminal Defense Law and Personal Injury and Accident Law. Erik was named and recognized by The Who's Who Directories as a Top Attorney of North America for 2019, 2020 and 2021. Ms. Fine was born in Orlando and raised in DeLand. She studied art at the University of Florida, she then graduated with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She practiced with the firm of Watson, Folds, Steadham, Sproull, Christmann, & Brashear, P.A. She served as the Assistant Director of Legal Research & Writing at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. She received the Recognition of Service Award from the Legal Panel of the ACLU of Florida. She is a former president of the Eighth Judicial Circuit section of the Florida Assoc. of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Florida Eighth Judicial Circuit of Bar Assoc. Ms. Fine is member of the personal injury law firm of Fine, Farkash, & Parlapiano, P.A., and a partner since 2008. She is a member of both The Bennett and Adkins, Inn of Court, where she is currently the President-elect. In 2022, she received the James L. Javier A. Finlay is a litigator with extensive experience in defending cases involving claims of premises liability, automobile liability, and workers’ compensation. His many years of practice include representation of national and international corporations, as well as local businesses. He has lectured on trending topics regarding workers compensation matters, and he currently advises his corporate clients when engaging in contractual negotiations with vendors including, but not limited to, indemnification and defense provisions. Mr. Finlay is a member of the State Bar in both the State of Florida and the State of Nevada, and he is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Diane Finston hails from McKeesport/Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—home of the Steelers and the Pirates—and is an avid fan of her hometown sports teams. Although a lover of winter, nevertheless she moved west to California, settling first in Berkeley and then relocating to Los Angeles. Diane graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Berkeley and then received her Juris Doctor from University of California at Davis. Her journey toward being a workers’ compensation attorney was not necessarily a direct route. Wanting to either be in politics or a cellist, and prior to attending UC Berkeley, Diane ended up at the University of Chicago Hospital as radiologist in the oral surgery trauma unit and was the first Director of the Berkeley Free Clinic Dental Clinic Program. Diane applied to the University of California, ostensibly to become a dentist, but ended up with a degree in Anthropology. After graduating law school, she became a family lawyer with an 18-year association with Steven Adams of the California Law Reports Organization. Going into her ninth year, Diane is blessed to now be a member of the Hinden & Breslavsky team, empowering injured workers to receive their legal and medical rights as a RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE.
