Rich Morris was born in Montreal, Canada and lived there until the age of 15 when his family moved to Florida. While living in Canada, he became a competitive swimmer and continued to swim after moving to Florida. After graduating high school, he attended Louisiana State University for one year then transferred to Florida State University where he graduated and swam collegiately at both schools. After graduating college, he worked for his parents at their printing shop then decided to attend law school because his cousin, an attorney, possessed a tremendous drive and tenacity to help others, and he wanted to emulate just that. In 1998, Jim obtained the first jury verdict against PPG Industries in asbestos litigation when a jury in Beaumont, Texas awarded $13 million in favor of 7 families whose loved ones developed mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure, in a consolidated case tried by Jim and Motley Rice. He participated in the discovery of the State of Texas v. The American Tobacco Industry. Morris has successfully handled products liability cases involving hormone replacement therapy, Fen-Phen, Baycol, Ephedra, PPA, and Propulsid.
