I am an attorney whose practice concentrates on special education law on behalf of children and parents. I concentrated my practice in this area for twenty-eight years. I help and represent disabled children and their families seeking a free and appropriate education, (FAPE). I am committed to advocating for families needing the advocacy of a special education law attorney. I understand the unique challenges that come with ensuring your child receives the appropriate educational services and accommodations. I work for rights of students with disabilities, providing legal support to secure individualized education plans (IEPs), and contesting school district decisions in administrative Special Education Impartial hearings, administrative appeals and related state and federal litigation. For the past three years, I have also been a New York State Department of Education Impartial Hearing Officer.

Matthew Hoffmann is an AV Preeminent rated litigator whose practice focuses on Plaintiff’s personal injury. Matthew grew up on a small family farm in rural North Dakota and attended law school at the University of North Dakota School of Law. In law school, Matthew was a scholarship student, serving as a Teaching Assistant for the Legal Writing and Appellate Advocacy courses and as President of the Moot Court Board. After obtaining his Juris Doctorate, With Distinction, Matthew moved to Las Vegas and began his legal career at Alverson, Taylor, Mortensen & Sanders, one of Nevada’s largest insurance defense firms. There, his practice focused upon the defense of medical malpractice, negligence and wrongful death actions against physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, and transportation companies. Prior to joining Battle Born Injury Lawyers, Matthew worked as a partner at the law firm of Arin & Associates, P.C., where his practice focused exclusively upon Plaintiff’s personal injury claims. Matthew is active in a number of professional organizations, including the Clark County Bar Association, Nevada Justice Association, and Citizens for Justice. Matthew is also active with his children’s educational and extra-curricular activities, serving on the Board of Trustees for Journey Education, and he is a Certified Official for USA Swimming through Southern California Swimming and Sandpipers of Nevada. Matthew was named one of the top 150 lawyers in Southern Nevada by Nevada Business Journal and was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, and as a Nevada SuperLawyer in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Matthew is a court-appointed Arbitrator and is licensed to practice in Nevada, California, and North Dakota.

Area of Practice: Employment Discrimination/Wage Hour/Real Estate Litigation/Small Business Litigation Don has been a member of the California Bar Association and a civil litigation attorney since 1983. He served as an officer with the Highway Patrol Division of the Arizona Department of Public Safety for eight years. While there, Don began his undergraduate education. He later returned to school full time to complete his undergraduate education and pursue a legal career. Don earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona at Tucson in 1979 and received his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1982. Don is also a veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. Upon graduation and receiving his license from the State Bar of California, Don worked for General Electric for a period of time. He then began his independent practice as a civil litigation and insurance defense attorney in San Diego. Don's practice expanded from his initial work in construction defect, personal injury and litigation defense into a more general civil litigation practice representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He represents individuals and business entities, including sole proprietorships, general and limited partnerships, and corporate clients, before state and federal courts in a wide array of civil litigation such as business and corporate litigation; real estate litigation; domestic, labor and discrimination cases; contract litigation; and construction defect and mold litigation. He has successfully represented individuals and business entities in a wide array of administrative matters before municipal, county, state and federal agencies and boards as well as state and federal administrative courts, including matters relating to professional licensing and credentialing. During his extensive years of practice, Don has represented hundreds of individuals and business entities in simple and complex litigation in hearings and arbitrations and at trial. He has tried cases before state courts, United States District Courts, state and federal administrative courts, and administrative agencies throughout California. Don has argued cases before the 4th District Court of Appeal and United States Court of Appeal. Don is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association (ABA), the San Diego County Bar Association, and the Riverside County and Desert bar associations. He is also a member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and Consumer Attorneys of California. He has presented seminars on behalf of and before many professional organizations in various fields, including real estate and labor.

Just before I retired from the Navy here in Virginia, I enrolled in law school at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach on the G.I. Bill. I had planned and waited for this day for nearly 20 years. I did not miss the school’s mantra about the law: “It’s More than a Profession; It’s a Calling.” At Holcomb Law, we begin with service, with the giving.
