Bill was born in Nashville August 22, 1962, while his father, a Naval Officer at the time, taught Navy ROTC at Vanderbilt. Bill grew up in the south spending his childhood in New Orleans, Birmingham, and Dallas. After graduating from Jesuit High School in Dallas, Bill went to The Citadel in Charleston, SC where he received his BA and MA in Psychology. After graduation, Bill worked as a Management Intern with GEICO for three years where he learned the ins and outs of the auto insurance industry. After leaving GEICO in the late 80’s/early 90’s Bill worked as an adjuster/paralegal/legislative aid for State Representative Alvin Granoff and as a paralegal/negotiator for the infamous pioneer of TV advertising Attorney Joe Byrd. In 1993, Bill joined Attorney Brian Loncar at Loncar & Associates. In 1997 Bill attended law school at night graduating in 2000 from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.

Mr. Knudson embarked on his legal journey after graduating from the University of Illinois in 1969 and initially working at Argonne National Laboratories, and thereafter studying law at Tulane University Law School. At Tulane, Mr. Knudson was not only a dedicated, academically, successful student who served as a Judge on the Honors Moot Court, but he was also elected by his fellow law school classmates to serve as Senior Class President, graduating in 1973. Demonstrating his unparalleled dedication to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Knudson, in addition to his legal studies, worked his way through law school. After his first semester in law school, he was hired to serve as a Law Clerk assisting attorneys at a nationally, renowned personal injury law firm in New Orleans where he would go to work at the end of each day’s classes. That employment as a Law Clerk provided Mr. Knudson with extremely valuable, “real world” personal injury experience and learning at the law firm, supplementing the legal knowledge he was also obtaining from his legal education while attending law school.

Prior to forming ILG Private Wealth, John’s professional career was focused as the director of the estate, retirement and business planning departments of several law firms in Florida and Pennsylvania. Today, John brings over 35 years’ experience of providing sophisticated legal and financial advice to the high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients of ILG Private Wealth. He founded the firm with the belief that high-net-worth families deserved access to conflict-free financial planning and investment advice. John’s expansive experience includes sophisticated estate and retirement planning, executive compensation and advanced benefits planning, asset protection planning and multi-generational legacy planning. As a licensed life and health producer, John is a noted author and lectures on the design and various uses of life insurance and annuities including: premium finance arrangements; corporate-owned life insurance; key man insurance arrangements; non-qualified retirement plan alternatives; captive insurance; private placement insurance; and proprietary multi-generational insurance strategies. John earned his Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law and went on to earn an L.L.M in Federal Taxation from the University of Florida. John has been an active member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association since 1983 and The Florida Bar since 1984. John currently holds a Series 65 registration and is a licensed life and health insurance agent.
