He specializes in litigation and arbitration, concentrating in the areas of business and commercial litigation; employment and securities law, including CRD expungement arbitrations; and criminal defense. John has successfully represented clients in Federal Court, State Court and in AAA and FINRA arbitrations. Before joining Baritz & Colman LLP, John was an active duty Officer in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, where he served as a military prosecutor and defense attorney in Colorado, Korea and Afghanistan, earning a Bronze Star and two Army Commendation Medals. He is currently a Major in the United States Army Reserve where he serves as a Brigade Judge Advocate for a medical unit in Massachusetts. As a Judge Advocate, John has appeared before more than 30 courts-martial and negotiated dozens of pre-trial agreements on behalf of the government as well as individual clients. Prior to his military service, John was an Associate at a prominent large law firm in Manhattan where he concentrated his practice on bankruptcy litigation and transactional lending work. John also does pro bono work on behalf of veterans in the New York area. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Tufts University in 1995, a Master of Social Work from New York University in 1998 and his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Fordham Law School in 2007. John is admitted to the New York State Bar and the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York.

Area of Practice: Family Office Law & Estate Planning Nina B. Stillman is a veteran business and estate planning attorney, serving as senior counsel in the Advanced Planning & Family Office Practice Group at Handler Thayer. She has a variety of experience which includes standard wills, domestic and international complex estate plans, drafting opinions as an Expert Witness and working with business owners on agreements and resolving employee issues. Ms. Stillman has over 30 years’ experience, focusing on the areas of domestic and international estate planning, charitable giving, wealth transfer, income and estate tax planning, asset protection and reorganization, entity governance and management, business succession planning, estate administration and litigation. She received a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin. She received her Master of Laws in Taxation degree (LL.M.) from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. Ms. Stillman is admitted to practice in the states of Illinois and Minnesota. Before practicing law, Ms. Stillman served as Trust Officer at U.S. Bank National Association with the focus of trust account administration.

He is also an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and a sponsor of Neighborhood Housing Services of Richmond, Inc. and the Richmond Ballet. Scott is a frequent lecturer for various Realtor organizations and the National Business Institute. His presentation topics include contract drafting techniques, title insurance issues, and ethical obligations when preparing and conducting a successful Real Estate Closing. Scott is a Registered Real Estate Settlement Agent under the Virginia Consumer Real Estate Settlement Protection Act.
