Growing up outside of Milwaukee, I always had an inkling that I would enjoy a legal career. However, after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Finance & Risk Management Insurance, I took a job in risk management. The experience showed me the administrative side of insurance companies that would become helpful later in my career, but I soon decided that I wanted to take the plunge and give law school a try. Not long after I started at Marquette University Law School, I realized that I had made a good decision. I enjoyed dissecting procedural aspects of a case and simplifying those aspects so that people could better understand a situation. I also participated in the Jenkins Honors Moot Court Competition. My team reached the semifinals and was awarded second-place overall brief in the competition. What I loved about Moot Court was that it presented an opportunity to gain experience arguing a position and responding to challenges on the spot. During law school and after obtaining my J.D., I worked at an insurance defense firm. There, I had a first-hand look at the insurance process, which allows me to inform my current clients about the difficulties they could be facing in a case. Over time, I’ve learned the importance of allowing my clients to have their stories heard. When we are faced with difficult situations, all any of us want is for someone to help us keep going. I am dedicated to telling my clients’ stories in a way that achieves the result they want and helps them look forward to better days. Outside of the office, I enjoy listening to live music and exploring the parks and lakes around Milwaukee. I’m also working on improving my cooking skills, and have recently perfected my recipes for fish tacos and chicken stir fry.

James Roswold has been in practice since 1990. While still in law school, he obtained early litigation experience as a member of the Iowa Legal Clinic. During law school, he gained additional litigation experience clerking for a sole practitioner whose practice included personal injury. James is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, MN, graduating magna cum laude, and University of Iowa Law School in Iowa City, IA, receiving his law degree and graduating with distinction, and he is admitted to practice law in both State and Federal Courts in Missouri. James started his legal career working for a defense litigation firm, where he handled personal injury, insurance, FELA, and asbestos cases. In a short time working for a defense firm, he gained an insight into "the other side's" preparation of a civil case, something that would become highly useful in his practice just three years later when he joined a law firm in Kansas City, MO and began his career of representing victims of injury accidents and medical negligence. There he was involved in all types of civil litigation, aggressively pursuing personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, consumer fraud, charitable fundraising, property insurance and workers' compensation cases on behalf of injured victims. Two years later, he helped start a law firm in Kansas City, MO representing personal injury victims where he became a partner in 1999. Fourteen years later, James decided he could best serve his clients by opening his own office for the practice of law in cases dealing with injured victims of personal injury, medical negligence, wrongful death, workers compensation, nursing home negligence, premises liability, product liability, and accident cases. Co-founder of the firm, Neal A. Roth has demonstrated his strength of conviction, legal skill, and formidable knowledge by winning significant verdicts and obtaining favorable settlements for his clients in some of Florida’s most hard-fought cases. Neal has more than 45 years of experience in medical malpractice, personal injury, legal malpractice, bad faith insurance, and age discrimination cases. Shortly after founding the firm, Neal handled a case that changed hospital protocol involving pediatric EKGs. As an infant, Chantelle Berman had an EKG performed and interpreted by an adult cardiologist instead of a pediatric cardiologist. Had a pediatric cardiologist interpreted the EKG, Chantelle’s congenital heart defect known as a patent ductus arteriosus would have been detected. This condition, if diagnosed timely, is highly treatable. Unfortunately, by the time the diagnosis was made Chantelle suffered irreversible pulmonary hypertension, and later died. As a result of the settlement of this case not only was the family compensated, but the hospital involved agreed to change its policies and procedures so that EKGs on children 12 years of age and younger were to be interpreted by pediatric cardiologists. Another significant case in Neal’s career began in the early part of 2003, when a young girl nearly drowned at an apartment complex in Hollywood. Her lawyers brought a claim against the complex and tried to settle the case for the policy limits. The insurer, through its lawyers, refused to settle the case on two separate occasions. As a result, a substantial verdict was rendered against the apartment complex, and the insurers were exposed to a bad faith claim which would have required them to pay enormous damages well in excess of the policy limits. The firm was retained to settle the underlying case and bring a legal malpractice action against the two law firms who mishandled the case. After two and half years of intense litigation, Neal recovered for the group of insurers from Lloyds of London an amount of money that approximated 75% of what they actually had to pay. The lead underwriter was made whole through the settlement and its own insurance coverage. Neal is a leader in the Florida Justice Association. A past president of the FJA, he currently plays an active role in the organization’s political and legislative matters. In 2003, the FJA bestowed on Neal the Perry Nichols Award, the most prestigious award it gives, recognizing a career dedicated to the Association, its members, and the citizens of Florida. In 2015, he also received the Al J. Cone Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors attorneys who have pledged their lives to uphold consumer rights and fighting for justice. Neal was appointed to the Florida Supreme Court to serve on two independent commissions. One to study jury trials and the public’s participation as jurors and the other to study litigation. The second commission recommended a new Rule of Civil Procedure which was adopted by the Florida Supreme Court. Although Neal’s law practice demands a great deal of his time, his strong sense of community has led him to be actively engaged in a number of civic organizations and philanthropic undertakings. An active member and past president of Temple Bet Shira in Pinecrest, he currently serves as Chair of its Endowment Committee. He is also active in the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and has endowed a permanent chair at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of Great Florida Bank from 2005-2013, and was a member of its Nominating Committee, Corporate Governance & Compensation Committee, Risk Management/Asset Liability Committee, and Compliance Committee. As a result of his legal acuity and winning trial record, Neal has been a frequent guest lecturer to various professional groups, including physicians, hospital administrators, nurses, and other attorneys. He has also been sought after to appear on television news programs as a commentator on personal injury and medical malpractice litigation.

Taylor Rothman is a litigation partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Taylor has broad experience in complex commercial litigation and government investigations. Her commercial litigation experience includes antitrust, healthcare fraud, data privacy, False Claims Act and breach of contract matters. She has played an integral role in several class actions and other cases involving federal and state courts. Her government investigations experience includes internal antitrust investigations. Taylor also maintains an active pro bono practice.
